A train needs about two kilometres to stop. Never try to beat one.
Your eyes will mislead you here. A train usually looks slower than it is — passenger trains in Canada travel at up to 160 km/h. At night the problem is worse: half of all nighttime collisions between trains and vehicles are vehicles hitting the side of a train, because the driver never saw it.
