Reserved lanes: HOV, bus and bicycle
Learn to Drive Smart · LTDS-2026-03 · Chapter 4 · Reserved lanes
HOV lanes are reserved for buses and carpool vehicles; motorcycles, bicycles and taxis may also use them on some roads. On freeways and main highways they sit beside the median or the shoulder; on city streets they are usually right beside the curb. Most operate 24 hours, but some only at peak times — the signs tell you where the lane begins and ends, when it operates, and the minimum number of people required.
