Pulling out of a driveway, alley or parking lot is a two-stage manoeuvre, and most of the risk sits in the stage people skip.
First, stop before the sidewalk — or before whatever area pedestrians may be walking through. You are crossing their path before you reach the road, and from a driveway your view along the sidewalk is often blocked by a fence, a hedge or a parked vehicle.
